Cautionary Tales – South Pole Race: “Mummy, is Amundsen a superb man?”

Roald Amundsen beat Captain Scott to the South Pole. The Norwegian – utilizing canine sleds and skis – made it look straightforward… enjoyable, even. He was heading residence to security, whereas the British occasion – hauling sleds by hand – struggled out on the ice.

On this case, to the victor went a spoiled repute. The British grumbled that Amundsen had someway cheated, or had at the least behaved in an underhand method. These stinging accusations would hang-out the adventurer till the day he died within the polar wastes.

Cautionary Tales is written by me, Tim Harford, with Andrew Wright. It’s produced by Ryan Dilley, with assist from Courtney Guarino and Emily Vaughn.

The sound design and unique music is the work of Pascal Wyse. Julia Barton edited the scripts.
