Trailer Watch: College Women Select Between God and Cake in Alice Rohrwacher’s “Le Pupille”

Date:

Seventeen ladies attending a boarding college run by nuns face a serious dilemma in “Le Pupille.” Billed as a “story of innocence, greed, and fantasy,” Alice Rohrwacher’s Disney+ quick movie sees the women selecting between satiating their very own needs and making a gesture that they’re instructed will please God.

When a cake made with 70 eggs makes its strategy to the college at Christmas, the nuns are shocked. The indulgence in “such arduous instances” is described as “insanity” and “a waste” in a brand new trailer for the mission. “I’ve a proposal for you,” a nun tells her pupils: “sacrificing your slice of cake and providing it as a pledge to Jesus.”

“The methods of future,” we’re instructed, “are limitless.”

“I like the truth that the ethical of this story is a bit weird,” Rohrwacher has stated. “On the one hand, we had a Christmas story, and on the opposite, we had loads of fantasy, creativeness — my creativeness and the viewer’s creativeness.”

Rohrwacher’s credit embrace “Blissful as Lazzaro” and “The Wonders.”

“Le Pupille” hits Disney+ December 16.
